In the fall of 1999 Built Green Colorado was wrapping up an initial three and a half-year funding grant provided by the Governor's Energy Office. The program’s members made the determination to create a self-sustaining business model rather than to continue seeking pubic funding for the program. In response to this challenge John Kurowski, Kurowski Development Co., and a small group of committed leaders came together under the name Built Green Industry Leaders with the mission to ensure the continued success of the program, in part by creating an industry-led funding source.
In January 2000, Built Green Colorado announced its transition to private funding, becoming the first statewide green building program in the country to do so.
Through the visionary participation of key individuals and corporations, Built Green Colorado stands today as the leading green home building program in the country.
The current members of the Built Green Industry Leader group are:
- James Hardie Siding Products, whose exterior finish products are durable, low-maintenance and environmentally sensible.
- The Rheem Team, which is committed to bringing to the home building market energy efficient heating, cooling and ventilation systems and products that protect indoor air quality.
- Boise’s, engineered wood products help minimize the use of dimensional lumber reducing demand on old growth forests.
- Trex, the leader in durable, low-maintenance decking products made of recycled materials.
- Whirlpool Corporation, a world leader in energy- and water-efficient appliances for the home.
- Kurowski Development, whose owner, John Kurowski, helped found Built Green Colorado and is known as a national spokesman for the program.
- Grace Construction Products, whose waterproofing and moisture control applications, make homes more durable by providing the first line of defense against moisture intrusion.
- Johns Manville, a pioneer in insulation innovations, including recycled content, formaldehyde-free and blown-in fiberglass insulation.
The leadership of these companies and individuals who represent them is clear in its direction: To bring about a dramatic, meaningful change in the way we build, operate and maintain homes, and to achieve a healthier, more efficient and sustainable home and world environment. |
