Builder Information
In a few short years, Built Green Colorado has become the
most successful program of its kind in the nation, with over
35,000 homes registered to date, more than 220 participating
builders across the state, and 52 industry sponsors.
Participating Builders benefit by identifying themselves with
this well known, well respected program and the standard of home
performance it represents.
Local and national surveys continue to show a rising level of
consumer demand for "green" and energy efficient homes, as well
as a willingness to pay extra for these features. Colorado
homebuyer awareness of the Built Green brand continues to grow
as demonstrated by research conducted by The Genesis Group and
Thomas, Taber and Drazen. In 2006 homebuyer awareness of Built
Green was 46%, of those aware of BG 6 in 10 stated that BG was a
factor in their home purchase decision, and 6 in 10 said it
would be a factor in their next new home purchase decision.

Builder Responsibilities
Built Green Colorado, through a certified HERS provider/Built
Green-approved rater, will conduct random verifications of the
Built Green Checklist to maintain quality control and program
credibility, and to maintain ongoing training and education for
builder members. The goal of the program is to perform random
verifications on 5% of the registered homes. Builders are
required to participate in random verification, at their
expense.
- This is a voluntary program, and as such it is the
builder's responsibility to monitor his/her own compliance
with the program. Built Green does require random
verifications on 5% (minimum) of all registered homes at
Builder’s expense.
- Builders are required to send one company employee to a
Built Green University (BGU) within one year of their
enrollment. After the first educational requirement is met,
builders will be required to send one company employee to a
BGU every two years thereafter.
- All registered Homes must meet the energy requirement of
the Built Green Checklist, select at least one item from
each of the eight required categories as set forth by the
Built Green Checklist, and meet the minimum required points
total (75 pts.).
- Registration of all homes is strongly encouraged,
(although at least one home must be registered with the
program per enrollment year). Home registrations and
registration fees should be submitted at the same time a
permit is pulled.
- The Builder is asked to substantially participate in
promoting Built Green® Colorado and to allow use of the
Builder’s name in program promotional efforts, to include
print and electronic media. “Substantially participate”
means, at a minimum, to:
- Display BGC literature, logo and educational
material in model homes and sales offices.
- Use the BGC logo in print advertising.
- Ensure that sales representatives have a working
knowledge of BGC and its homebuyer benefits.
