Whirlpool Corporation delivers energy efficient appliances with superior
results
DENVER,
CO—Never before has saving energy and preserving our nation’s natural resources
been more important. Whirlpool Corporation, the maker of Whirlpool® and
KitchenAid® brand appliances, joins Built Green® Colorado in the fight to
preserve the earth’s resources.
For over 30 years Whirlpool has been at the forefront in developing resource
efficient appliances. They led the industry in the crafting of all major
appliance efficiency legislation, standards and the ENERGY STAR® program itself.
ENERGY STAR qualified appliances allow homeowners to use energy more
efficiently, save money on utility bills and reduce air pollution without
sacrificing the features, versatility or design they expect from high-performing
products. In fact, the corporation has taken their commitment one step further.
Whirlpool has challenged itself to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 3%
from 1998 levels, a goal that will be achieved not only by the production of
ENERGY STAR appliances, but also by modifying manufacturing processes.
For its efforts, Whirlpool Corporation has received recognition with over 100
international, national and state awards since 1991. The Department of Energy
and Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Whirlpool with the ENERGY STAR
Partner of the Year award 5 times since 1999.
Imagine
a world where more laundry gets done with less energy and better cleaner
results: Conservation without compromise. The Whirlpool® Duet® washer combines
high performance with outstanding efficiency, providing consumers with
outstanding cleaning and unprecedented gentleness. While front-loading washers
use less water and energy by design, the Duet® washer is truly ahead of its
time, already exceeding government energy standards through 2007. A Normal cycle
in the Duet® washer uses only 16 gallons of water vs. 44 gallons in a
conventional washer, resulting in enough water savings to fill a 16'x20'x6'
swimming pool every year. Because the Duet® washer uses so little water, less
energy is needed to heat the water. In addition, higher spin speeds extract more
water and save energy by reducing the drying time, resulting in 67% less energy
used than a conventional washer. Similar savings are realized with the new KitchenAid Ensemble® washer, also a front-loading clothes washer. The Whirlpool
Duet® and KitchenAid Ensemble® washers achieve these savings without sacrificing
style or performance. In fact, the Duet® washer was the first appliance in North
America to be certified by the Woolmark Company, the world's leading wool
textile organization, to safely clean washable wool.
Imagine owning a refrigerator with annual energy consumption equal to a 75-watt
light bulb. Whirlpool offers this product in the Conquest® side-by-side
refrigerator, a significant achievement for an “always-on” appliance. The
Whirlpool Conquest® refrigerator is ENERGY STAR qualified, exceeding minimum
Federal standards for energy consumption by 15 %. The Whirlpool Conquest® offers
a series of unique features, allowing consumers to save energy and money without
sacrificing performance. For example, the Conquest® includes an exclusive
In-Door-Ice® ice dispensing system that creates 19 percent more usable freezer
space*, the UltraEase™ Plus water-filtration system and a stylish contoured
door.
Imagine having a dishwasher that saves enough water in one year to give every
person in Williamsburg, Virginia, a glass of water. Whirlpool's ENERGY STAR
qualified high efficiency dishwashers use up to 50% less water than similar
products that are 10 years old.
Whirlpool Corporation is able to offer these efficient products across all price
ranges, providing something for every style of decor and budget while
maintaining the exceptional performance our consumers expect. Nearly all
Whirlpool and KitchenAid brand dishwashers and refrigerators are ENERGY STAR
qualified, including built-in models and the professional-style KitchenAid Pro
Line™ Series. Additionally, the company offers an increasing number of ENERGY
STAR qualified clothes washers in both front-load and top-load models to make it
easy for home design to include a full suite of efficient products.
“Finding ways to save energy and water is more important to consumers today than
ever before. We are proud to partner with Built Green® Colorado in taking the
necessary steps to deliver energy-efficient appliance solutions for new home
shoppers in this state,” said Jeff Fettig, Whirlpool’s president and chief
operating officer. “We have learned that there is a mindset with consumers that
energy-efficient appliances often compromise on performance, and that is simply
not the case with our products,” says Fettig.
Whirlpool Corporation is the world’s leading manufacturer and marketer of major
home appliances and offers more energy star rated appliances than any other
manufacturer. Headquartered in Benton Harbor, the company manufactures in 13
countries and markets under 11 major brand names in more than 170 countries.
