The HBA of Metro Denver, along with Built Green Colorado, and in partnership with The Governor’s Energy Office (GEO), are proud to offer several training intensives for ENERGY STAR partners or others interested in understanding the technical requirements of the ENERGY STAR for New Homes program.

We are offering three 1/2 day seminars on topics applicable to all attendees interested in understanding the compliance requirements of the New Homes program, including relevant building science and high performance mechanical systems. These training’s will prepare the attendees to both build to the requirements as well as understand the rating and verification components of the program.

Who Should Attend?

Builders & their Trade Partners, Contractors, Architects & Designers, Code and other City Officials, Energy Consultants and Verifiers, Manufacturers, etc. 

While these trainings are open to anyone interested in learning more about ENERGY STAR for New Homes requirements and techniques, we highly encourage the participation of contractors, with their trade partners, in order for a building team to achieve full-process integration.

In-depth Building Science Seminar for ENERGY STAR for New Homes

Thursday, June 18, 2009

Registration and Cancellation Deadline: Monday, June 15th

This session will cover the fundamentals of building science with regards to designing and constructing buildings that systematically incorporate framing, insulating and air sealing techniques that effectively manage heat, air, and moisture flows. All this is accomplished while minimizing lumber and material uses while increasing energy efficiency and building durability. Following the guidelines within the ENERGY STAR program’s Thermal By-Pass inspection process and properly installed insulation are critical building blocks for this session.

Basic building science & ENERGY STAR classroom training. This training will cover the requirements of ENERGY STAR, giving participants an understanding of the technical requirements of the program, including: insulation, mechanical systems and load calculation requirements, compliance with the Thermal By-pass checklist, Lighting and Appliance recommendations & requirements, and ventilation system recommendations.

This session will be focused towards the integrated design of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) into all high performance projects, including HVAC equipment sizing, duct system design and layout and its relationships to high performance building envelopes. Ventilation systems design and its increasing role of importance in high performance buildings, including climate specific strategies and installation and options will be discussed and demonstrated. Lastly, the role of diagnostics and testing procedures will be discussed.
