Congratulations to our 2007 Built Green Award Winners:

Below is a listing of the 2007 Built Green Award Winners. We are very proud of all the winners and honored to have them as members of the program.

The Built Green Hall of Fame was established to acknowledge and thank a select few leaders who work long and hard behind the scenes to support and enhance the work of the program and grow membership.

Chad Tennat, with James Hardie Siding Products. Chad has shown his exceptional leadership skills and dedication to the program this year by successfully leading the Revenue Generation Task Force, a committee whose efforts are essential to the health of the program. Thank you Chad for your insights and leadership.

Dale Stevenart, and Beverly Stevenart of Craftsman Homes and Design. Dale and Beverly have been long-standing supporters of the Program in the Pueblo area, and have consistently been at the forefront of high-performance, green building in their market. Thank you, Dale and Beverly, for being such strong voices in your local industry.

Mike Frisoni, of Annadel Building Solutions. As a home energy rater in Durango and the SW corner of the state, Mike has been a tireless supporter and emissary of the Built Green program, increasing the Program’s participation in the Four Corners area. Mike, I think we need to clone you – thanks for all your work.

The Built Green Home of the Year Awards, in which there are four categories, recognize excellence in the building of sustainable, high performance homes.

The Built Green Home of the Year priced at $250,000 or under, award went to Aspen Homes of Colorado. This Fort Collins home is recognized for the noteworthy achievement of combining affordability with high quality and high performance. This home sold for under $200,000 AND qualified for the federal energy efficiency tax credit by reducing its energy use to 50% below a code-built home. It also accomplished 199 Built Green points, a testament to the truism that green building and affordability are not mutually exclusive. Congratulations to the entire Aspen Homes team.

The Built Green Home of the Year priced between $250,001 and $500,000, award went to Aspen Homes of Colorado. This Loveland home achieved energy efficiency of 31% better than code and 231 Built Green points. Built with a very high focus on indoor air quality through the incorporation of the Energy Star indoor air package, it was one of the first homes in the nation to meet these new indoor air quality requirements. Congratulations again to Aspen Homes.

Built Green Home of the Year priced between $500,001 and $1,000,000. This award goes to Tierra Custom Homes. This Durango home demonstrates exemplary integration of careful design consideration, high energy efficiency, conscientious materials selection, resource conservation, and indoor air quality measures. Congratulations to Tierra Vision Homes.

The award for Built Green Home of the Year priced at $1,000,000 or above went to The Natural Dream Home by KPA Construction. This Larkspur home was undertaken by Ken Pieper and his team to set a new standard for green building in the luxury home market, and they have truly succeeded. From the design stage forward they worked with a strong team dedicated to the vision of sustainable and energy conserving building practices. In addition to being showcased by Mountain Living Magazine, this home will serve as a green building classroom for luxury home buyers and builders alike. Congratulations KPA Construction.

The Built Green Builder of the Year went to Tierra Vision Homes, a division of Tierra Custom Homes. Tierra Vision accounts for fully 60% of the Built Green homes in the Durango area. They are the preferred builder in the Three Springs project, the largest traditional neighborhood design, master planned community in the area. As such, they are in a remarkable position of leadership. They have seized that opportunity to influence the sustainability practices of the local designers, suppliers, subcontractors and builders. The voice of industry leadership to the local government and environmental groups, Tierra Vision has been proactive in their work to move Built Green forward in that market with great success. We greatly appreciate their work. Thank you Jim Ketter, and congratulations.

Built Green Sponsor of the Year. BG could not succeed without sponsors, and we have some of the very best. Even among the best, there are clear leaders, movers and shakers, idea makers and good companions in the work of growing a program. This year’s Built Green Sponsor of the Year is Johns Mansville - through the vision and hard work of Scott DeShetler. Johns Manville has been a member of Built Green for 10 years, and they would tell you that Built Green has influenced Johns Manville’s focus on recycled content, formaldehyde-free insulation, and their latest innovation, fiber glass spray insulation. When Johns Manville stepped up their sponsorship level the become a Built Green Industry Leader, Scott DeShetler likewise stepped up to bring his corporate acumen, financial analysis tools, and solid leadership skills to the Industry Leader group. We appreciate the partnership and the leadership. Thank you Scott, thank you Johns Mansville.

These Built Green Award Winners are the vanguard embracing the opportunity, meeting the responsibility, and having the vision to recognize the necessity as it pertains to climate change. We call upon you to join their ranks. Each one of these outstanding leaders stand ready to share what they have learned. So, in addition to recognizing their accomplishments, we encourage you to seek them out and benefit from their experience.

This month’s sales tip features item # 75 from the 2007 Built Green Checklist

Insulation used throughout the house meets indoor air quality standards of GreenGuard, SCS, California 1350, or Berkley Labs.

Sales Tip: GreenGuard, SCS, California 1350, and Berkley Labs are all organizations that have established performance based standards to define goods with low chemical and particle emissions for use indoors. VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), such as formaldehyde and other respirable particles from non-certified insulation have been shown to have chronic illness effects to humans.
