Revised Built Green® Checklist Removes Rescheck™

The use of REScheck™ as a means to demonstrate the energy requirement of 15% above IECC 2006was removed from the Built Green® Checklist in February because of its limitations as a performance-based tool. Builders will now show compliance with the Built Green energy requirement entirely through from plans ratings coupled with the 5 percent verification requirement. Points will be given for performing more than the required 5 percent ratings, encouraging builders to performance-test more of their homes. To stay on top of the latest practices in building performance. Refer to the Guide to the Built Green® Checklist, the Built Green Rating Protocol and the U.S. Department of Energy Building America “Best Practices” manual for valuable assistance in getting to your efficiency goals.

Homes by the numbers

The total number of home registrations so far in 2007 is 1268.

Builders: Remember that home registrations are due at time of permit. Submitting home registrations at the same time you submit permits will keep your paperwork on track. If you are permitting in volume you may register homes in bulk each month, but quarterly submittals are no longer allowed.

Relax and Enjoy the Summer Outside, Install a Recycled Composite Deck

The average consumer is thinking and acting greener these days, and many homeowners have already discovered the benefit and satisfaction of having an outdoor room made with recycled content decking material. Composite decking and railing, pioneered in the early 90s, has found success with outdoor lovers who don’t want to worry about their deck rotting or warping. Trex decking for example, actually uses those recycled plastic grocery bags shoppers return to the supermarket bin as well as reclaimed wood; it’s a durable, environmentally conscious mix is approximately a 50/50 ratio (50% recycled grocery bags and 50% reclaimed woods). The goal is to bring out the best qualities of both materials. With the many different design capabilities, colors and special wood grain textures, these products are now found in many of today’s finest homes.

Trex is a 2007 Built Green Industry Leader. To find out more information about recycled composite decking, and the various options available, please visit: www.trex.com.

Hose your competition this summer with May’s sales tip

This month’s sales tip features # 175 from the Built Green Checklist

Efficient irrigation system, must include ALL of the following:

  1. Installed irrigation system is designed for the efficient distribution of water, based on hydrozones
  2. Turf and bedding areas are zoned separately
  3. Shrubs such as drip irrigation with non-spray irrigation systems such as drip irrigation and subsurface irrigation

Sales Tip: A properly designed drip irrigation system is a water efficient method for watering trees, shrubs and perennials. Since Trees and shrubs have different water needs than turf, it makes sense that an irrigation system be tailored to these individual needs for the prolonged health of a landscape and the most efficient use of water.
