Leadership role: Built Green
Industry Leaders keep program moving ahead
In January 2000 Built Green Colorado announced its transition from being
primarily funded by the Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation
to becoming the first privately funded statewide green building program in the
country.
In the fall of 1999 John Kurowski, Kurowski Development Co., and a small
group of industry leaders set out to bridge the funding gap for Built Green
Colorado. The program was wrapping up an initial three and a half-year funding
grant provided by the Governor's Office of Energy Management and Conservation.
Led by Kurowski, the group came together under the name Built Green Industry
Leaders with the mission to assure the continued success of the program.
We thank John Kurowski and our other Built Green Industry Leaders for their
generous contributions in time, leadership and funding:
- James Hardie Building Products, whose exterior finish products are
durable. low-maintenance, and environmentally sensible.
- The Rheem Team, which is committed to bringing highly energy
efficient heating and cooling systems and products that protect indoor air
quality to the home building market.
- Boise Building Solutions' engineered wood products meet the demands
of environmentally conscious consumers.
- Trex, the leader in durable, low-maintenance decking
products made of recycled materials.
- Whirlpool Corporation, a world leader in energy- and
water-efficient appliances for the home.
- U.S. Home Corporation, the largest builder of exclusively Built Green homes in Colorado.
- Kurowski Development, whose owner, John Kurowski, helped found
Built Green Colorado and is known as the national spokesman for the program.
- Grace Construction Products, whose environmentally-friendly
waterproofing and moisture control products make homes more durable
The leadership by these companies and the individuals who represent them is
clear in its direction: to bring about a dramatic. meaningful change in the way
we build, operate and maintain homes, and to achieve a healthier, more efficient
and sustainable home and world environment. They believe in the motto of Built Green, and encourage others to embrace it as well: This place is everybody's
home.
